12-23 CCSO bicycleCORDELE — One of the top Christmas wishes among children each year is a bicycle. Sheriff Billy Hancock and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office wanted to help turn those wishes into realities.
On Friday, December 11 Hancock and officials with the CCSO talked to students at the Crisp County Primary School about bicycle safety; the importance of wearing a helmet and using proper hand signals when riding and cautioned them on the dangers of not riding safely.
Hancock said there will be a lot of new bike riders on Christmas morning and they want kids to be safe when riding. He said both he and his staff also enjoy every opportunity they get to interact with the children in the community.
Following the bicycle safety program teachers in the third grade drew a name from each of their classes. That student received a bicycle and helmet. There was a total of 16 bikes given away and Hancock said he is grateful to all those who helped make it possible. The bicycles were presented to students on Thursday.
