VIENNA — Community leaders and citizens here are gearing up for a year-long celebration as the City of Vienna turns 175.
Founded on February 8, 1841, 2016 will mark the dosquincentennial anniversary.
They even have designed a special ornament to commemorate the occasion.
According to Main Street Director Larista Thompson the logo for the celebration which is featured on the ornament was designed by Joel Fokes of Dooly County. Ornaments are on sale at Vienna City Hall or the Cotton Museum for $12 each.
There are lots of celebrations and activities taking place throughout the year in honor of the city’s milestone.
There is still time to get your entry into the Vienna Theme Song Writing Contest. The deadline for those submissions is Friday, January 29.
This year’s Dooly County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Dinner will also be a bit of a birthday celebration for Vienna. There will be birthday cake. That event will be held on Thursday, February 4 at the Unadilla Community Center. Cost is $30 per person for chamber members and $35 per person for non-chamber members.
A calendar of events is available at Vienna City Hall.
