CORDELE – Jean D. Evans, 88, died at her residence Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2016 at Penia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Evans was born in Starkville, Miss. to the late Walter Didlake, Sr. and the late Julia Wofford Didlake. She is preceded in death by husband: Lewis E. Evans; and her siblings: Walter Didlake, Jr., Tom Didlake, Ellen Didlake, Beverly Didlake and John Didlake. She was a retired school clerk for the Crisp County Board of Education. She was a member of Penia Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Jenkins, Bob (Jean) Evans, Felix Evans and Doug (Jane) Evans all of Cordele; her sisters: Mildred Ann (Col. James, RET) Reeves of Denver, Colo. and Ruth (John) Currie of Big Spring, Tex.;  her grandchildren: Laura Evans of Atlanta, Julie (Allen) Ellenberg of Cordele, Wes Jenkins of Cordele and Jason (Joanna) Evans of Leesburg; and her great-grandchildren: Joseph Durham, Dalton Durham , Camden Durham, Taylor Ellenberg and Tucker Ellenberg all of Cordele and Caleb Evans and Kailey Evans of Leesburg.
As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be sent to the Penia Baptist Church Building Fund, C/O Cindy Smith, 333 Wildwood Drive, Cordele, GA 31015.
