Bible reading marathon continues

CORDELE — The community has turned out in numbers this week to support and participate in the city’s first Bible Reading Marathon.

The event kicked off on Monday morning at 9 a.m. with two county leaders Crisp County Fire Chief Jonathan Windham and Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock being the first to the podiums.
There are three podiums set up for reading. When one person finishes, the next one steps up and continues right where they left off.
Danny Kimbrel who has coordinated the event said most people are reading in intervals of 15 minutes but he welcomed anyone to come and read as much as they want to. He said he did have some repeat readers, coming at

different times whenever they can to read. Kimbrel also commented he had families with children coming in to share the reading of God’s word together.
One father, Gregory Crapp of Cornerstone Church come with his four children to read from the Bible.
“A father, showing his children the importance of faith,” said Kimbrel. “ It is something that is lacking in so many families today. Many children do not even have a father in the household.”
The Bible reading marathon will continue through today and end tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Anyone wanting to come participate just needs to drive up to the Crisp County Courthouse and join in. Everyone, ALL denominations are welcome.
