Led by Head Coach Katie Satterfield, the Crisp County High School boys and girls tennis teams completed their regular season and GHSA AAAA Region 1 Tournament play this past week.  The boys earned a close 3rd place in their sub-region during the regular season but, unfortunately, fell short in the 1st round of the region tournament against state tournament-bound Americus-Sumter.  The boys were anchored this season by seniors Dylan Walker at 3rd singles and Jonathan Walls at 1st doubles.  Also playing were junior Malik Pittman at 1st singles,  and freshmen Jeremiah Bell at 2nd singles, Tyler Adams at 1stdoubles, and Justin Walls  and Drew Braziel at 2nd doubles.  With a young but experienced squad returning next year, the Crisp County boys expect further and growing success.

The girls earned a very close 2nd place in their sub-region during the regular season.  In the 1st round of the region tournament, they beat Westover 5-0 with wins from senior Jordan Farmer at 1st singles, junior Morgan Lawson at 2nd singles, junior Madison Barber at 3rd singles, senior Laura Bertelson and junior Ansley Mitchell at 1st doubles, and junior Shelby Farrar and freshman Audrey Mercer at 2nd doubles.  In the 2nd round, they lost 2-3 to a tough Bainbridge team with wins from Lawson and the duo of Bertelson and Mitchell.  In the consolation game, the girls earned the region’s 3rd place by beating a strong Thomas County Central team 3-2 with wins from Farmer, Lawson and the Bertelson/Mitchell doubles team.  In the end, Farmer prevailed in a tough 3-setter for the team win.  The Crisp County girls team now awaits the identity of their opponent, the 2nd place team from Region 4, in the state tournament to start next week.  Of exceptional note, the 1st doubles team of Bertelson and Mitchell completed regular season and region tournament play undefeated.
