VIENNA — Community leaders and citizens from Vienna and around Dooly County gathered together on the town square to observe the National Day of Prayer.
Mayor Hobby Stripling, Sr. welcomed those in attendance.
Larista Thompson introduced Rev. John Walker, Pastor of Vienna United Methodist Church as the guest speaker for the observance.
Rev. Walker shared a few words summing things up with a portion of a song he said reflected the moment. The chorus of the Lee Greenwood song:
“And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God Bless the USA.”
The assembly bowed their heads for a moment of silent reflection after which Rev. Walker offered a closing prayer. Thompson then led the assembly in singing “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” to end the program.
