CORDELE – A graveside service for Boyd L. Smith of Cordele will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Mr. Smith, age 89, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Cordelia Manor. His wife, Ruthroselyn Smith; two daughters, Cindy Moore and Debbie Smith; and a brother, Theodore Smith, preceded him in death. Mr. Smith was born in Girard, PA and was the son of the late Ben and Lilly Smith. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he had served during World War II. He was a self-employed aeronautical engineer (RET) and had at one time worked with Harris Waste Management. Mr. Smith helped to design the NASA track that carried the shuttle to the launch pad. He was a pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a past member of the Lions Club and a member of the Methodist faith. Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Ernie Rhodes of Cordele and Denise and Greg Farmer of Vienna; three grandchildren, Joyle Rhodes and his wife, Kim of Cordele, Benjamin Moore of Pinehurst and Hunter Farmer of Vienna; a great-granddaughter, Macy Johnson of Cordele; and a sister-in-law, Donna Smith of Indiana.
