CORDELE — Rev. Phil Streetman conducted the funeral service for Boyd L. Smith of Cordele  at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services.
A pre-recorded song, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” was played.  The flag was folded and presented to daughter, Sandy Rhodes. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smith, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Cordelia Manor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthroselyn Smith; two daughters, Cindy Moore and Debbie Smith; and a brother, Theodore Smith. Mr. Smith was born in Girard, PA and was the son of the late Ben and Lilly Smith. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he had served during World War II. He was a self-employed aeronautical engineer (RET) and had at one time worked with Harris Waste Management. Mr. Smith helped to design the NASA track that carried the shuttle to the launch pad. He was a pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a past member of the Lions Club and a member of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Ernie Rhodes of Cordele and Denise and Greg Farmer of Vienna; three grandchildren, Joyle Rhodes and his wife, Kim of Cordele, Benjamin Moore of Pinehurst and Hunter Farmer of Vienna; a great-granddaughter, Macy Johnson of Cordele; and a sister-in-law, Donna Smith of Indiana.
