Rev. Duain C. Newsome

VIENNA — Funeral services for Rev. Duain C. Newsome were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Streetman and Rev. Don Howell officiated the service. The committal service followed in Sunnyside Cemetery with Rev. Larry Wilbanks officiating.

Ray Faircloth, pianist, played for the service and opened the service with “How Great Thou Art”. He also accompanied Rev. Newsome’s grandson, Jason Meeks, as he sang “Grace Greater Than Our Sin.”

Pallbearers were: Earl Hamilton, Dickie Dowdy, Kenneth Carter, Steve Hughes, Harry Carter and Kenny Peters.

Rev. Newsome, 89, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at his residence following a short illness.  Rev. Newsome was born in Crisp County, Ga. to the late Talmadge Newsome and to the late Jessie Edna Watson Newsome. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Newsome Ross; his siblings: Talmadge Vernon Newsome, Benjamin Seldon Newsome, Virgil Irvin Newsome, Lee Edsel “Doodlebug” Newsome; and a daughter-in-law: Ann Newsome.

Rev. Newsome was the retired owner and operator of Newsome Radio and TV for 50 years. He was also an ordained minister serving in several area churches for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife: Juanita Hunt Newsome of Cordele; his children: Ronald Newsome of Vienna and Teresa N. (Gregg) Taft of Warner Robins; his son-in-law: Danny Ross of Cordele; his brother: L. O. “Pete” Newsome of Dawson, Ga.; his grandchildren: Jason Meeks, Chris (Marla) Newsome, Matthew Clark, Suzanne Clark and Hannah Clark; his great-grandchildren: Elijah Newsome, Brennan Newsome and Logan Newsome.
