Janie Spence Oliver

KENNESAW, GA. — Janie Spence Oliver, age 70, of Kennesaw, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2016. Ms. Oliver was a strong and caring individual with many accomplishments in life.

She was born into this world on December 27, 1945 to Hoke and Irene Spence and grew up in Cordele, Georgia. She had a passion for photography that carried through her whole life. Ms. Oliver had a son, John, who she raised as a single mother. Throughout his childhood, she not only supported her family through work, but also attended school eventually earning her Masters in Psychology from Valdosta State.

Her family later grew to include her daughter in law, Stephanie. Ms. Oliver had always wanted a girl and got her wish with her granddaughter, Sophie. Upon hearing the news about Sophie, Ms. Oliver managed to buy and move into a home closer to her family all within a month.

She was compassionate and understanding not only with her family but with others as well. She worked as a marriage and family therapist for many years before retiring. Ms. Oliver is preceded in death by her parents, Hoke and Irene Spence.

She is survived by her son, John B Oliver and his wife, Stephanie Youngblood Oliver, of Kennesaw and her precious granddaughter, Sophia “Sophie” JoAnn Oliver of Kennesaw. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 2:00 PM until service time at 3:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Georgia.
