ALBANY — Joseph Stephen (Joey) Johnston, 52, of Albany, died Thursday, July 21, 2016.

His funeral service will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Kimbrell-Stern.  The interment service will be at 3 PM on Tuesday at the Vienna City Cemetery, Vienna, GA.  The Rev. Billy Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern on Monday from 6-8 PM.

Joey was born in Albany and lived here all of his life.  He graduated from Albany High School in 1982.  Joey inherited the position of working the scoreboard at local football games from his father Bobby Johnston, and together they worked a total of 58 years at Hugh Mills Stadium for all the teams.  This was one of Joey’s real pleasures. Another of Joey’s pleasures was spending time with his daughter Morgan.  They enjoyed taking cruises together and delighted in each other’s company.  Joey enjoyed being outdoors and loved golf, fishing, and hunting.  He was a member of the Exchange Club of Albany since 2003.  He was employed at Farris Screen Printing.  Joey was a member of the First Assembly of God in Pelham, GA.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Arthur Johnston, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnston, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cumbus.

He is survived by a daughter:  Morgan Johnston, Leesburg; Morgan’s mother:  Stacey Johnston, Leesburg; his mother:  June Johnston, Vienna, GA; his father:  Bobby Johnston and his wife Betty, Albany; fiancé: Kathy Glover and her children, Leighann, Shaun, Heaven, and Macey, all of Camilla; a niece:  Victoria Marin, Orlando; 2 nephews:  Casey Johnston and Matthew Johnston, both of Orlando; numerous aunts and uncles.
