CORDELE — The Historic SAM Shortline Excursion Train, managed by the Georgia State Parks, would like to invite all area law enforcement officers and their families to ride Georgia’s “Rolling State Park” free any Saturday in August. Officials with SAM Shortline say it is their way of saying “Thank You” to the state’s law enforcement officers.

Train passengers ride in climate-controlled, restored 1950’s era train cars from Cordele to visit President Jimmy Carter’s hometown of Plains. Trips leave in the morning and get back in the afternoon.

The offer is available for any law enforcement officer in Georgia and their family (up to 6 tickets total) and is good for any Saturday during the month of August. Law enforcement officers do not have to be in uniform, SAM Shortline wants them to come and enjoy an “off duty” day with their families. Agency identification must be presented when picking up tickets on the day of the train ride. Tickets must be booked in advance by calling (229)276-0755 on Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“We at SAM Shortline appreciate our law enforcement and we look forward to having you aboard,” said Terry Miller, Site Manager – Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites.
