CORDELE –The annual Georgia Veterans Triathlon will once again be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park on August 6th 2016  The event will begin at 8 a.m. with participants entering the water at Lake Blackshear for a 400 meter swim. After emerging from the water they will proceed to a designated area to mount their bikes for the next 13.6 miles along the beautiful shores of Lake Blackshear, then finishing with a 5K run. Awards will be given to the top male and female in a variety of categories. “This event is sponsored by the Cordele-Crisp Tourism, Cordele-Crisp Chamber and The Lake Blackshear Resort. It is a great opportunity for us to showcase Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, Lake Blackshear, as well as the entire community, stated Eli Tinsley, Chairman of the Cordele-Crisp Tourism Committee.”

Volunteers are still needed for this important event which brings over 400 triathletes and their families to our community. Please call or email the chamber if you would like to participate. This is a great project for our young people to volunteer, as it is a great family event. This event, as all tourism events, is a tremendous economic boost for our county.

We encourage folks that live along the bike route on Scenic Route and South Cedar Creek to cheer on the bikers.  Another thing that will help is if folks along the route will  keep their dogs on a leash or fenced in so they don’t chase the bikers.
