CORDELE — Brad Rigby formally announces his campaign for District Attorney for the Cordele Judicial Circuit including Ben Hill, Crisp, Dooly and Wilcox Counties.  Rigby says “My desire to continue to serve as your District Attorney comes from years of meeting with the families of victims, helping them cope with their tragic circumstances, and providing justice for them during their time of grief.”

While in the Cordele District Attorney’s Office, he has prosecuted numerous murder cases and armed robbery cases including the gang involved-shooting of Jasperin “Baby J” Armstrong, the murders of Mamie Wright, Clifford McArthur, Tellis Fort, Ashley Garry, and Dwayne and Octavia Brown. Brad has served as the District Attorney since March 11, 2016, and was subsequently appointed to that position by Governor Nathan Deal. 

Brad attended Mississippi State University from 1991-1995, graduating  summa cum laude, then attended the University of Mississippi School of Law from 1995-1998 graduating cum laude.

Following graduation, he clerked for Judge David Hayes in the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals, and then he began his career as a prosecutor in 2000 in the Tifton Judicial Circuit.  He also served as Special Assistant District Attorney for the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia, and has served in the Cordele Judicial Circuit since July of 2010 and for three years as the circuit’s Chief Assistant. 

When Ms. Denise Fachini resigned as District Attorney to run for Superior Court Judge, as chief assistant, Mr. Rigby became the Interim District Attorney. As the District Attorney he is assigned to prosecute all crimes from misdemeanors to felonies for the Cordele Judicial

Circuit.

Mr. Rigby has received the Thompson-Jones Award for Faculty Member of the year in 2014 for BASIC Prosecution Course in training prosecutors. He was also the Co-Lecturer for Case Law Update at Prosecuting Attorney’s Council Winter Conference and Co-Lecturer for Murder 101 training for prosecutors for the Prosecuting Attorneys Council.

Brad resides in Cordele and coaches baseball with the Crisp County Recreation Department.  He has attended Albany Bible Church for sixteen years where he serves as a deacon and has been involved in overseas missionary efforts for four years.
