The Lady Cougars opened their 2016 season Tuesday afternoon in Fitzgerald. In the top of the first inning both Hunter Meadows (Jr) and Riley Blampied (Fr) singled and stole a base. Jordan Dickerson (Jr) followed driving in both with a double to the left-center gap. Freshman pitcher Rilee Duckworth allowed her defense to support her working scoreless innings for the first two frames.

In the top of the third inning Hunter Meadows singled and stole another base. Riley Blampied drew a walk and help set the table for Ivy Lewis (Jr) to drive in two more runs. The bottom of the third brought 2 runs for Fitzgerald on three hits and an error, bringing the score to 4-2.

In the top of the fourth Ansley Mitchell led off with a base hit and a stolen base. Alexis Meadows moved Mitchell to third on infield grounder. Hunter Meadows followed with another hit that scored Mitchell giving the Lady Cougars a 5-2 lead.

The bottom of the fifth saw a momentum change that would not end well for the Lady Cougars. Fitzgerald added 2 runs on two hits, a hit batsman, and an error closing Crisp’s lead to 5-4. The momentum change continued on into the sixth inning when with one out both Alexis and Hunter Meadows singled and Riley Blampied drew a base on balls loading the bases. Jordan Dickerson drove a hard line drive to center and Hunter Meadows was doubled off at second ending the scoring threat. Fitzgerald tied the game in the bottom of the frame on two hits and a passed ball. In the final inning the Lady Cougars went down quietly on three straight batters. Fitzgerald plated the winning run on a hit batsman, an error, and a passed ball.

The Lady Cougars were led offensively by Hunter Meadows (4 for 4), Jordan Dickerson (3 for 4), Ivy Lewis and Ansley Mitchell both had two hits apiece.
