Anytime Crisp Academy wins a softball game is a good day right? Anytime they beat AAA Deerfield of Albany is even better. Throw in a perfect game performance by your starting pitcher Josie Wessel and it is a great day. First of all perfect games come along only once in a blue moon, I mean they are very rare. We have had some perfect games here in Cordele against poor teams and those are still rare as well, but beating a good team with a perfect game is like winning the lottery.

“She was on that’s for certain hitting her spots and nailing that breaking pitch,” said Coach Mike Reed. Wessel struck out 13 batters on her way to this historical performance and received good defense from her teammates to preserve the game. The 2-0  Lady Wildcat win over a school with 3 times the students in their backyard was an astounding feet. The game was very much a pitchers duel as Crisp only collected five hits and some walks themselves and of course Deerfield was 21 up and 21 down. Late in the game while the Lady Cats clung to a 1-0 lead Wessel was able to help her cause by drawing a bases loaded walk that pushed across the 2nd run of the game and a little cushion in the historic event. The last perfect game pitched in the Major Leagues was ironically onin Albany August 15th, 2012.
