Tilla Idelle Harris Roberson of Nashville, Georgia died at her home on the morning of Friday September 2, 2016. She was from Wayne County, Odum, Georgia. The daughter of Oscar and Agnes Harris, she grew up on a farm with many siblings, and attendedMiddle Georgia College.  In addition to farm chores she became an accomplished pianist.  She married Don Roberson in 1946 and they eventually moved to Nashville,Georgia where they started selling Ford tractors and farm equipment. Initially she was active at Roberson Tractor Company and even delivered some tractors; however, with the arrival of children her focus became the home.  Nashville had become an idyllic situation for home life and activities with neighbors as well as their children. Their neighborhood was known for football and softball games as well as fun activities for children.

 

She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Nashville and helped with various aspects of the church. This included participating on the administrative board, Sundayschool programs, vacation bible schools,  mission committees, and the “P and  J Ministry” (food distribution outreach). One of her favorite verses is Matthew 6:34 – “So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time.”

 

In the community she was active in the PTA, the Woman’s Club (where she helped to organize a teen center), the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Valdosta Country Club, and Circlestone Country Club.   She was an avid bridge player, and she belonged to one of the original clubs in Nashville.  Her recreational activities included gardening, her greenhouse, golf, jogging, bicycling, and Taekwondo.  She enjoyed other activities as well, especially traveling, reading, taking classes, and dancing.

 

Her priority was involvement with her family and raising four children – Fonda, Linda, Donny, and Sam. She and her husband raised their children in a traditional style focused on school work, daily chores, sports, and piano.  She and her husband enjoyed activities with many people in the community as well as their families. Her creative abilities were often realized in social events, parties, and special occasions for friends and family. She also became an active dog owner and trained her latest dog, Ritch, who became a close companion for her.

 

She is survived by two daughters – Fonda R. Young (Jim Young), and Linda R. Pannell (Dr. Bill Pannell), two sons – Donald N. Roberson, Jr., and Sam H. Roberson (Ted Buckley), six grandchildren – Chad J. Carpenter (Allison Carpenter), William Roberson Pannell (Christina Pannell), Dr. Stephanie Pannell Stokey (Dr. Brandon Stokey), Stacy Idelle Powell, Preston Harris Pannell, and Eric E. Powell, and two great grandchildren – Bowen Ritch Carpenter, and Kate Tilla Carpenter.

 

Among many of her favorite quotes, she enjoyed – “Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind, it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life….” Her joy for life, determination to persevere, sense of style, positive attitude, and ready hug were always available.

 

Visitation is at 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 7^th at Lovein Funeral Home, and the Funeral Service is at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 8^th at the NashvilleUnited Methodist
