A graveside service for Janie Kate Mathews of Cordele will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Janie, 85,  passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Legacy Village Assisted Living and Memory Care in Tifton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Corwin Mathews and a brother, L.F. Bubba” McKinney, Jr. She was born in Crisp County and was the daughter of the late L.F. “Fate” McKinney, Sr. and Ola Mae Bridges McKinney.

Janie was a lifetime resident of Cordele and Crisp County and long-time and active member of Cordele First Baptist Church. Her biggest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends and having coffee with girlfriends. She enjoyed a brief time working in Real Estate and was active in the “Investing For Fun and Fortune Investment Club.”

Janie is survived by her sons and their wives, Mark McKinney Mathews and Carol Mathews of Tifton and  Jay Corwin Mathews and Cindy Hawthorne of Gig Harbor, WA; a sister and brother, Helen Garwood Davis and Herbert Webster McKinney, both of Cordele; three grandchildren, Katie Mathews Lodge and her husband, Blake of Tifton, Mark McKinney Mathews, Jr. and his wife, Sarah of Jacksonville, FL and Ian Mathews of Seattle, WA; and three great-grandchildren, Payne Lodge, Caroline Lodge and Bryden Mathews.
