In a year and a half since inception, Hand of Hope ministry is rapidly expanding its community outreach.  Glenn Jarrett, speaking at the Cordele Garden Club’s October meeting, describes Hand of Hope as a “Church Without Walls’.  Supported by proceeds from the Thrift Shop, grants and donations, the Multi-Purpose Center offers services to all who come.

This Spring, volunteers of all ages partnered with local businessmen to drill a well, clear land and plant a vegetable garden.  The harvest was so bountiful that the group was able to receive a grant offered by CSX and the Conservation Fund.  Grant proceeds assure continuation of the project.  This month soil has been tilled and Fall planting begun.

The presence of CSX benefits our community’s economy on a daily basis.  Their organization also assumes a social responsibility to “make an impact Beyond our Rails”.

Kriss Hollen, Vice President of Sustainable Programs at the Conservation Fund says “Local and regional food organizations are unsung heroes working tirelessly to make healthy, fresh food a convenient, practical and affordable option for everyone, particularly children and other vulnerable populations, and they deserve recognition and support for the important role they play in their communities. “  The staff at Hand of Hope fits that description perfectly.

On the horizon are plans for a Meditation Garden as one must nurture both body and soul.

The Cordele Garden Club is exploring ways to make that vision come true.
