Friday night as the Crisp County Cougars marched onward towards history, they stopped for a little feast. Delicious sauté of hornets smothered in moms home made gravy. It was scrumptious and also fun to watch as the Cougars handed region opponent Cook County a 47-14 thrashing. The Den was rocking and the now 8-0 Cougars moved one step closer to destiny.

The Hornets did strike first a 47-yard dart by Brandon Doe the Hornets all state running back who came into the game with 1654 yards rushing. Well before the Cougars could get on track the visitors scored again and there they were 14-0 in the first quarter in our own house. That didn’t last long as Crisp County quickly got on the board with a long run by Jamie Robinson and the PAT was hooked left a little by Brandon Thompson and the Cougars trailed 14-6. Next after holding and forcing a Cook punt Crisp county hit pay dirt again this time on a 24 yard pass from Miles Napier to Brandon Dowdell and the PAT was good and the Cougars closed the gap to 14-13. Then in the 2^nd quarter Napier again hooked up with Dowdell on a quick pass that “Dangerous” Dowdell took 47 yards to the house, the Cougars went for two and failed but took a 19-14 lead into halftime.

The more the Cougar defense tightened the noose around Cook, the more of their “sting” they took from them.

The third quarter was all Crisp County as Robinson carried one in from 3 yards out and the Thompson boot made it 26-14 Cougars. Then Patrick Felton hit ole “dangerous” on another 65-yard strike and the Cougars were on cruise control up 33-14. After recovering a Cook fumble the Cougars would add another score to the board as Jamie “ hoss” Robinson pushed in another Cougar score from 8 yards out. Crisp County was up 40-14 headed into the 4^th stanza, which they always own so the game was out of reach. The Cougars got the ball and drove down the field and Felton pushed in the last score of the game from 2 yards out and “Frosty” Thompson PAT was good and the score stood at 47-14. The starters were pulled and the last 4 minutes was a mop up. “ Again we started out slow and made some mistakes, but the boys responded well and took it to them, I am very please with the effort,” said Head Coach Shelton Felton. The Cougars will travel their last two games. They will be in Albany next Thursday night to play Dougherty County in another key region matchup.
