Alabama girl Rebecca “Becca” Stackhouse is setting down some new roots in Georgia.  Cordele, Georgia, to be exact.

On December 1, 2016, Ms. Stackhouse began her new position as the Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent through the University of Georgia.  The position has remained vacant since the former FACS Agent and CEC, Sandra McKinney, retired.

Becca’s assignment to the position is a welcomed addition to our community.

Stackhouse comes to Cordele with quite an impressive educational background for someone who is just 23 years of age.  She already holds her Masters of Science in Family Studies and a B.I.S. Social Science Certification for Family Life Education from the University of North Alabama in Florence.

Becca stated that she always knew she wanted to work in Extension and pursued a degree that would aid her to that end.  Upon graduating, she searched available Extension opportunities and landed in Cordele.  Her role will encompass a variety of consumer outreach efforts.

A few of those efforts include educational programs for daycare workers, childcare providers, and teachers.  She will also be instrumental in helping restaurants and schools obtain/maintain certification through the ServSafe Program.  Stackhouse will also provide education concerning finances, budgeting, and the process of purchasing a house.

In a more varied outreach, she can provide instruction with becoming a lifeguard and can certify people for CPR and First Aid.  Need babysitter training?  Becca is certified to train others in that area as well.

“I hope to initiate change that impacts the quality of people’s lives,” Becca related.

In addition to her many duties, Stackhouse will have assigned interaction with Crisp County 4-H’ers and will also be a 4-H portfolio judge.
