Yesterday, the City of Cordele Fire Department and the Crisp County Fire Department received a generous donation of smoke detectors from Home Depot in Cordele.

Twenty-five detectors  were given to each department and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Cordele Fire Chief Augustus Telfair said, “I really appreciate Home Depot thinking about us and the citizens and hopefully lives will be saved.”

Chief Telfair also stressed upon the importance of having a smoke alarm in your place of residence.

Crisp County Fire Chief Jonathan Windham said that anyone needing a smoke detector can call his department at 276-2260.

“We greatly appreciate this donation of smoke detectors,” Chief Windham said gratefully. “We were out and had a desparate need.”
