REVEREND BOBBY C. MOYE

Rev. Bobby C. Moye, 83, of Albany, GA, died February 25, 2017, at Willson Hospice House.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00  a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Leesburg.  Rev. Tom Pollock, Rev. Bobby Harrell and Dr. Todd Sullens will officiate.  Interment will follow in Leesburg City Cemetery.

A native of Soperton, GA, born to the late Dewey Moye, Sr., and Myrtis Parker Moye, Rev. Moye grew up in Pitts, GA.  He entered the Ministry at age sixteen and was ordained at Pitts Baptist Church.  Rev. Moye graduated from Bob Jones University and Trinity Bible College.

The young Rev. Moye was called to the Plainfield Baptist Church in Eastman, GA, where he met his wife, WiloDene Giddens Moye.  In 1963, he and his family moved to Leesburg, GA, where he pastored the First Baptist Church for eight years.  Rev. Moye was an essential part not only of the church, but of the Lee County Community where he made lifelong friendships.  In 1971, Brother Bobby, as he was affectionately known, was called to serve Sunnyside Baptist Church in Albany, GA.  He served the church for twenty eight years before retiring in 1999.  During his career, he also served Cadwell Baptist Church, Lumber City Baptist Church, and was currently serving as the Pastor of Westview Baptist Church.

Rev. Moye was a member of the Chi Delta Theta Literary Society, served as a Moderator for the Mallary Baptist Association of Albany, served on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention. He served as Chaplain and Counselor for the Georgia State Prison System, and was Speaker to the House of Legislature in 1981 and 1982.  Rev. Moye joined many, many couples in Holy Matrimony and often commented “Most of them stayed!”  He also conducted countless funerals in his ministry as Staff Minister at Mathews Funeral Home during his sixteen years there.

Rev. Moye was preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, WiloDene Giddens Moye in 2014, and his grandson, Justin Robert Moye in 2009.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Moye, Jeff Moye (Joyce), and Chris Moye all of Lee County, GA, three brothers, Billy Moye (Shirley) of Macon, GA and Dr. Norman Moye (Angie) and Dewey Moye, Jr. (Sheria) all of Dahlonega, GA and a sister, Patricia Ann Martin (Herman) of Albany, GA and his grandsons, Jake Moye of Breckenridge, CO and Joseph Moye of Lee County, GA.

The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mathews Funeral Home.
