William Phillip “Phil” Gordon

William Phillip “Phil” Gordon, age 62, of Americus, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Saturday, March 25, 2017. He was born June 22, 1954 in Augusta, to the late Lyndon Clyde Gordon and Ivylyn English Gordon. He was a graduate of Wilcox County High School where he lettered in football, baseball, and basketball all four years and track for two years. As an athlete, he won awards for Best Defensive for three years, Most Valuable for three years, Most Improved for two years, and was an all-state Quarterback his senior year. He served as Treasurer of the “W” Club for two years and was a member of the WCSO Club for four years, and 4-H club. He served on the annual staff as a senior and was a class favorite. He was also a member of Student Leadership Council. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Pitts Cemetery, 431 Cleveland Ave., Pitts, Ga 31072 with Rev. Hicks Brown officiating.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law: Myra Gordon of Americus and Sheila Bowen of Pitts; and several nieces and nephews: Katrina Gordon Revell, Tracy Evans, Spence Gordon, Jenna Rose Gordon, and Dustin Gordon.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyn Gordon and Dale Gordon; and an aunt, Lura English.
