Cordele — Crisp County softball has been on a tear lately, winning five out of the last six games including a 8-1 win over in region opponent, Dougherty.

   “We were low on pitching at the beginning of the season and have had some girls step out and really been working at it,” Robbins said.

  The next two weeks the Lady Cougars will be facing a tough stretch, having to face region leader and undefeated Worth County twice, Perry High School on the road and second place Cook for the third time this year.

  “We’ve got to throw and catch, we’ve got to make routine plays and throw the ball over the plate,” Robbins said. “Offensively, we’ve got to be disciplined at the plate and just do what we’re supposed to do.”

   With less than a third of the games remaining this year, Crisp County sits comfortably in third place in Region 1-AAA, giving them an opportunity to compete in the state tournament for a second straight year.

  “Mia Murray has really stepped up for us lately and given us a chance to be in ball games,” Robbins said. “She’s walked maybe four of five batters in the last four games so it’s given us an opportunity to compete.

   The Lady Cougars will look to make a repeat appearance in the State Elite Eight.
