PINEHURST — Homecoming was not all celebrations for the Fullington Academy Trojans as they fell 28-21 on a late touchdown to Georgia Christian Academy on Friday night.

Senior running back Lance Mitcham had a huge night for the Trojans accounting for all three touchdowns.

Both teams started off the game slowly trading possession before Fullington Academy began a drive midway through the first quarter.

A horse collar penalty by GCA allowed the Trojans to continue their drive.

Junior quarterback Jake Horne rolled out with just over two minutes remaining and found Mitcham down the left sideline. Mitcham out muscled the defensive back for the ball midair and ran in the score from 38 yards out.

Mitcham on the next defensive drive recorded an interception at his own 18, stopping a GCA drive.

On the first play of the Trojan drive he took a hand off on an end around and raced through defenders for an 82 yard score to put Fullington up 13-0.

The Fullington offense began to stall opening up the door for Georgia Christian for the remainder of the second quarter.

In that time span, GCA scored 21 straight points and took the lead into the locker room.

Neither offense could get anything going in the third quarter, however, senior defensive back Nakita Brown was able to intercept two passes for the Fullington defense to limit any damage.

With just under nine minutes left Horne found Mitcham again on a roll out and a two point conversion tied the game at 21 apiece.

The Fullington defense had a quick defensive breakdown with just over two minutes left and allowed a 77 yard run that eventually led to the final score.
