VIENNA — Dooly County’s three game win streak came to an end on Friday night following a 27-26 loss against No. 10 Marion County.

The Bobcats, which had been able to escape with a victory over Taylor County in a high scoring affair, kept it close, however, it was the inability to stop the run game that prevented a fourth straight win.

Dooly County allowed junior running back Travon Matthews to consistently chew up yards to the tune of 206 yards on 27 carries. Matthews scored all three rushing touchdowns for the Eagles.

Dooly held Marion County in check in the passing game, allowing sophomore quarterback Trice McCannon to only complete two passes on the night. Unfortunately, McCannon connected on a 15 yard pass for a touchdown.

Bobcat junior quarterback Bo Lawson has made 300 yard games the norm, combining for 360 all-purpose yards. Unlike previous games, Lawson struggled with his pass accuracy, hitting only 9-19 for 167 yards, many of which came on a 54 yard pass to sophomore Shamon Zanders.

Senior wide receivers Desi Lawrence ( 5 receptions, 63 yards) and Jaquavius Brown (3 receptions, 48 yards) both caught a touchdown pass, while junior running back Reggie Smith ( 13 rushes, 43 yards) added a score on the ground.

Lawson almost hit the 200 yard mark for rushing, taking 18 carries for 193 and a score, however, with 22 seconds left in the game the Bobcats failed on a two-point conversion resulting in the 27-26 score.

Dooly County dropped two spots as a result of the loss and currently sits at No.22 in the 24-team playoff race. The Bobcats will take on Greenville (2-7, 2,5 4-A) at home to close out the season.

A victory against No. 31 Greenville all but assures an eighth straight playoff appearance for the Bobcats.
