CORDELE – On Sunday, November 19 at approximately 3:45 p.m., Cordele Fire Department responded to a house fire located at 203 West 15th Ave. Heavy smoke and flames were visible upon arrival on site. Resident Mittie Denard is 90 years old and has lived in the 1 story, 1700 square foot house for decades. Denard was not in the home at the time of the fire, but has lost most of her belongings.

“There’s nothing left, nothing,” Denard said. “All my furniture, bed, living room suit, everything. All that’s gone. All my clothes.”

The fire was confined to the house, but not without major structural damage. Shortly after fire suppression started, the porch collapsed. The fire was completely extinguished by 6:45 p.m. The cause of ignition is unknown and found to be unintentional.

The estimated amount in property loss is $16,570 and the value in contents loss is $8,000.

For now, Denard is staying with her daughter.
