Simmons appointed to Friends of GA State Parks board

Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, a non-profit working with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources since 1993 to support Georgia’s natural and cultural resources, has announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Mr. Scott Brady, Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company in metro-Atlanta, Ms. Marcy Williams of Cloudland, Georgia and Ms. Monica Simmons, area resident

and President of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce.

“We are pleased to announce these appointments,” reported Tom Johnson, Board Chair. “Because of the nature of our work, it is important to have leadership from all areas of our state. Ms. Simmons’s professional experience in the Crisp County community along with her myriad volunteer efforts make her a perfect fit. We are excited to add her perspectives and skills to our leadership team.”

Simmons’s resume includes over 25 years of leadership and volunteer service in the Crisp County Community. She attended Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, is a graduate of Leadership Crisp 1991, a graduate of Leadership Georgia 2003 and a 1996 graduate of the University of Georgia Institute for Organizational Management. She has also completed the 2-day and the week-long Economic Development Course sponsored by Georgia Tech and has participated in the Georgia Academy.

Simmons is a member of the Cordele Kiwanis Club, Upward Basketball/Soccer Program, is a Charter member of the Friends of Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park (serves as Treasurer), on the South Georgia Technical College Board of Trustees, serves on the Keep Crisp Beautiful Board, the Cordele Easter Seals of Southern Georgia Board, and secretary of the Southwest Georgia United Empowerment Zone.

Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing support to Georgia’s most treasured resources.  With over 6,000 volunteers statewide, the organization serves almost every state park in Georgia.
