Mrs. Delores Hendley Pope

 ALBANY – Mrs. Delores Hendley Pope, 87 of Albany passed away Sunday January 28, 2018 at Century Pines assisted living.
            Born in Vienna, GA on April 27, 1930 where she was preceded in death by her parents Rupert Leon Hendley and Eloise Dodson Hendley of Vienna, GA and a sister Ouida Hendley Richardson of Dudley, GA.
            She attended Young Harris Junior College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics.
            She was a volunteer for a number of years with the Soil Conservation Service and in 1981 was recognized for her work as secretary of the Georgia natural Resources Conservation Workshop by the Soil Conservation Society of America.  In 1982 she received the Environmental Educator of the Year Award for work with the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop of Georgia from the Chapter Soil Conservation Society of America.  In 1983 she received the Outstanding Conservation Award presented by the Woodman of the World Life Insurance Company.  In 1987 she received the “Man of the Year” Award from the Georgia Association of Conservation District Supervisors for her work with the Georgia Natural Resources Conversation Workshop. The name of this award was later changed to Conservationist of the year.
            Mrs. Pope was a member of Raleigh White Baptist Church and of the Martha/Mary Sunday School Class and NARFE.
            Survivors include three sons: Rodney Lee Pope and wife Nadine of Marietta, GA; Michael Leon Pope and his wife Nancy of Newnan, GA and Russell Sanders Pope and wife Kathy of Live Oak, FL; Two grandsons Zachary Ryan Pope of Marietta, GA; Douglas Eugene Pope and wife Rachel of Live Oak, FL; great-grandson Jonathan Michael Pope of Live Oak, FL; and granddaughter Frances M. Sizemore of Leesburg; a great-granddaughter Lily Rose Sizemore.
            Her funeral service will be held Saturday 2:00PM at Kimbrell-Stern with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.  Rev. Ronnie Kinsaul will be officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM and also Saturday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
