Margery Gleaton Fitzgibbons

Margery Gleaton Fitzgibbons, 83, of Decatur transitioned to heaven on February 14, 2018. She was born in Cordele to the late Margery Walker Gleaton and William Gayton Gleaton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alyce Ruth Patterson. Margery is survived by her children, daughter, Janet Fitzgibbons Brown and her husband, Johnny Mack Brown of Thomson and a son, Gregory Garrett Fitzgibbons of Lafayette, IN; three grandchildren, William Gregory Brown and his wife, Drew, Ryan Garrett Fitzgibbons and Natalie Alexis Fitzgibbons; a devoted cousin, Beverly Drake; and many nieces and nephews.

She proclaimed the Baptist faith and attended the University of Georgia.  Margery possessed all the beauty and grace of a true Southern Belle and was crowned Miss Watermelon Queen of Cordele. During her lifetime she lived in several states including Connecticut and California. She loved her family and friends and was known for her cheerfulness, artistic ability and generosity.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday February 22, 2018 in the chapel of A.S. Turner Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2018 in a private service at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele and will be handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
