Reverend Tony R. Dixon, age 65 of Abbeville, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 in the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 15, 2018 in the Abbeville First Baptist Church of Abbeville. Visitation will be two hours before the service from 1-3 PM in the church. Layman John Leab and Reverend Jimmy Black will officiate. T. R. Dixon will present a eulogy. Interment will be in the family plot in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele.

Reverend Dixon was born on August 19, 1952 in Screven, Georgia. He was son of the late Jasper Benny Dixon and Elfreda Chancey Dixon. He graduated from Waycross High School in 1970 and the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Florida in 2005. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He was the current pastor and member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church. He was a very dedicated member of the Abbeville Lions Club and served on the Executive Board Committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention. He was former pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Cordele, Hurricane Creek Baptist Church in Westville, Florida and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Defuniak Springs, Florida. He served his country with honor in the United States Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by their daughter, Christy Renee’ Dixon in 1991.

Survivors include: wife-Frances Dixon of Abbeville, son-T. R. (LeAnn) Dixon, Jr. of Dothan, Alabama and a sister-Jeanette (Warren) Haynes of Waycross.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the charity of choice.
