Funeral services for Betty Jean Nipper of Cordele will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The committal service will follow in Arabi Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Betty passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at Crisp Regional Hospital.  Born in  Turner County, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Tifton Hammonds and Myrtle Estelle Davis Hammonds. She was preceded in death also by her husband, Pollis Nipper; grandson, Seth Hammonds; and siblings, Ernest Tifton Hammonds, Dickie Hammonds, Brenda Gail Hammonds and Estelle H. French. Betty was a homemaker and attended church at Northern Heights Baptist and Zion Hill Baptist. She was a woman who loved her Lord and life and possessed a work ethic that surpassed many others. She always had a smile on her face and a sweet word for all that she met. Her passion in life though was her family and loved her time with them. She is survived by her children, a daughter Debbie Black of Lumberton, NC and two sons and their wives, Mike and Twyla Hammonds of Kathleen and Billy and Dorinda Nipper of Cordele; grandchildren, Heather Dial, Charles Allen Black, Joshua Black, Kayle Nicole Hammonds, Michael Scott Hammonds, Sel Hammonds, Chelsie Nipper Smith, Laura Lea Nipper, Corey Wayne Nipper and Tracy Gibney; 13 great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Joy Hammonds and Cathy Briceno.
