VIENNA- The Dooly County Commissioners met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, July 5.

The commissioners addressed a funding request from the Cordele Judicial Circuit Public Defender in reference to the FY 2018-2019. The Public Defender’s Office gets funding from the state level and also from all of the counties in their respective circuit. Last year, Dooly County funded $31,000, and this year the request is for $22,000. The board moved to grant the funding request from the Judicial Court.

The commissioners next heard from Dooly County Emergency Management Agency Director, Kenny Calhoun, who reported that Drayton Fire Station had damage to several of the roll-up doors during the storm system that came through on Tuesday night. The plans for repair of the doors are in progress.

The County Administrator, Steve Sanders, then briefly addressed the Georgia Department of Transportation’s FY 2019 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) program. Dooly County’s formula amount for 2019 is $628,926.01 and in order to get the grant the county has to have a local match of 10%. Applications for the grant are due on December 31 of this year.

The Dooly County Recreation Department has also made a request for a new engine in its pickup truck after some recent complications. A new engine for the truck would cost around $6,000, but the commissioners are planning on looking into more potential options to find the best course of action for the Rec Department.

The next regular meeting of the Dooly County Board of Commissioners is scheduled for Thursday, July 19, at 9 a.m. at the Dooly County Commissioners’ Office at 113 N. Third Street in Vienna.
