Cordele City Commissioners approve letter of support for a Housing Preservation Grant Application

CORDELE– Cordele City Commissioners approved a letter of support for a Housing Preservation Grant Application. Southwest Georgia Regional Commission is applying for the House Preservation Grant and requested a letter of support from the City of Cordele. City Commissioners hope this will bring grant funding from the USDA in order to improve housing in the area.
City Commissioners also approved the bid recommendation for the 8th, 10th and 13th Street TE Project. Bid openings for the project were held on July 12 at 2 p.m. The engineers for the project the bid award go to HTS Construction Inc. at a price of $545,593. The project will be funded partly by GDOT for $400,000 and the remaining $145,593 will be funded by the City of Cordele from TSPLOST funds. The date for pre-construction has been tentatively set for September 6, 2018 with work to begin soon after.
The Gillespie-Selden Rehab Project/Urban Renewal officially has the award funding and the 2017 CDBG is currently in bid process.
The Quiet Community Project has been submitted for a Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Cordele and CSX. The city is waiting to receive the start-up cost that CSX will need in order to begin the construction phase of the project.
The next Cordele City Commissioner meeting will be on Tuesday, August 7 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 501 N. 7th St. in the courtroom on the second floor.
