Funeral services for Sue J. Crum of Cordele will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Cordele First United Methodist Church with the committal service following in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Rainey Family Funeral Services. Sue, 89, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Crisp Regional Hospital.

Sue graduated from Georgia Business College in Macon and returned to Cordele to work for Garwood Insurance Agency.  There she met the love of her life, Charles, who had returned from serving in WWII.  She worked for a number of years with her husband in his business and later worked and retired from Cordele Banking Company.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church for over 72 years and a member of the Wesley-Fellowship Sunday School Class and Senior Choir.   Past service to the church included teaching Sunday School in the Primary Department, participating in UMW and serving on the Board of Trustees,  Evangelism and Friends Committees.

Known affectionately to many as “Mama Sue,” she found her greatest joy in being with her family and countless friends of all ages.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren adored  their “Mimi” and she was always involved in their lives.

She was a wonderful cook and found joy entertaining  in her home and delivering her home cooked specialties to others.  At Christmas everyone wanted to be on Mama Sue’s list of “knick-knack” recipients.  You never left her house without having eaten something delicious or being given something to take home.

Sue had a natural gift for being a good listener and confidant.  She was known for her sweet disposition, generosity, genuine concern, outgoing personality and sincerity.  Sue cared deeply for others and her Christian example of unconditional love is the legacy she leaves behind.

A native of Cordele, she was the daughter of the late James Frankie Johnson and Cassie Stephens Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Crum;  son, Chipper Crum and a sister, Frankie Lee Phillips. Sue is survived by her daughter and her husband, Suzanne and Ralph Harper of Albany;  her deceased son’s wife, Jan Crum Bryan of Chattanooga, TN;  her  grandchildren, Jason Charles Harper and his wife, Christa of Gainesville, and  Brandon Hamilton Harper and Emily Suzanne Harper, both of Savannah; two great-grandchildren, Jason Charles “Chip” Harper, Jr. and Kailee Alexis Harper; a sister and her husband, Alyene and Malloy Culpepper of Cordele; and numerous nieces and nephews.
