CORDELE– On Saturday, July 28, Cordele Police Department will host their second school supply drive called “Pack the Police Car” in preparation for the National Night Out event. Cordele Police already held the first school supply drive this past Saturday, July 21 at Wal-Mart.

National Night Out, which is part of the National Association of Town Watch, is an annual event held nationwide on the first Tuesday of August. This year will be the 35th annual Night Out event.

“It’s all about law enforcement working together with the community and creating what they call community partnerships with different businesses, organizations within our area,” Cordele Police Public Relations Officer, Lt. Andrew Roufs said.

The Cordele Fire Department is going to be there doing safety demonstrations with the Jaws of Life. Cordele Police will also be doing Taser demonstrations with a Taser Suit to show how it operates.

There will also be a dunk booth and a bouncy house among other kid-friendly activities.

According to National Night Out’s website, the event “promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.”

The National Night Out event will be on Tuesday, August 7 beginning at 7 p.m. located at Watermelon Park on the corner of 2nd Ave. and 3rd St. in Cordele.
