CCHS softball team closing in on region title

CORDELE- The Crisp County High School softball Lady Cougars are just a region win away from clinching the GHSA region 1-AAA crown.
The Lady Cougars split a double header this past Thursday (September 20) in Adel against last season’s AAA state runners-up, Cook County.
The Cook County Lady Hornets took game one of the double header with a 3-1 win to put the pressure on Crisp in game two. Rilee Duckworth took a hard fought loss in the circle in the first game of the series with six innings pitched, allowing the three runs on six hits and seven walks, while striking out seven Cook County batters.
Riley Blampied had two hits in three at bats and scored the only run for Crisp County in the first game. Macy West had the RBI for the Lady Cougars in the game and had one hit in two at bats. Megan Bloodworth and Jo Brady each finished the contest with one hit.
The Lady Cougars took game two by a final score of 9-2 using a late inning barrage after the teams were tied at 2-2 at the end of the third inning.
Bloodworth finished the game with four hits in four at bats, three runs scored and a solo home run. Blampied also hit a home run and scored three runs in game two of the double header, while Peyton Bozeman and Brady both finished the game with a hit and two RBIs to help lead the Crisp batting lineup. West contributed with two hits and an RBI.
Duckworth picked up the game two win in the circle, going seven innings and conceding just the two Cook County runs on eight hits and four walks.
If Cook would have swept the double header, they would have been in good position to claim the region title, but since Crisp County earned the split with the game two win, they remain in prime position for the region championship, which means home field advantage to start out the playoffs.
The Lady Cougars finish up region play at home against Monroe Thursday afternoon with a double header set to start at 4 p.m. One win out of the two games will clinch the region championship for Crisp County.
