Hancock: Community outreach important

‘Coffee with a cop’ days provide citizens chance to interact with local law enforcement officers

Representatives of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, including Sheriff Billy Hancock, met with citizens at four locations around Crisp County on Tuesday during the agency’s annual “Coffee with a Cop” day.

Hancock pointed out the need for law enforcement agents to have face-to-face interactions with everyday residents to ensure their needs are being met, and it’s helpful for citizens to learn that cops are people, too.

“Community outreach is so important to what we do,” Hancock said. “We’re working hard every day to strengthen our relationships with the citizens we serve.”

CCSO Deputy James Reed simply said, “I’ve seen some old neighbors, and I’ve met some new neighbors. It’s been good.”

The Cordele Police Department is conducting its “Coffee with a Cop” this morning at BJ’s Diner from 7:30 to 9:30.
