Officers with the Cordele Police Department answered a number of calls over the past weekend, including one reporting shots fired and two regarding suspected fraud. They also made a drug arrest, among others.

On Sunday, September 30 at 8:21 p.m., CPD officers responded to a call regarding shots fired near the intersection of 13th Street and 16th Avenue. Officers were unable to make contact with any potential shooters and no suspects are listed on the incident report.

On Saturday, September 29 at 3:09 p.m., CPD officers arrested Cordele resident Alonzo Maurice Young for possession of methamphetamine. Young was arrested after officers responded to a call from a South Bass St. residence regarding an unwanted person.

On Friday, September 28, officers met with Cordele resident Bruce William Martin, who informed them that he had been receiving letters from the U.S. Department of Education stating that he owes money for student loans taken out for the purpose of attending Shoreline Community College in Washington. Martin, however, told officers that he has never attended college anywhere at anytime.

On Thursday, September 27, Cordele resident Chelsey Howard contacted CPD regarding a letter her husband, Kevin Howard, had received. The writer of the letter demanded that an undisclosed amount of money be sent to someone who goes by the alias “RedHeart91” or secret information would be released to Mrs. Howard and others.
