Funeral services for Annie Ruth Smith, 91 of Cordele, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The committal service will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Annie Ruth passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 at her residence.  She was born in Warwick to the late Eli Brewer and Vera White Brewer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Smith, a daughter, Connie Moore Mixon and her siblings, Earl Brewer, Edward Brewer, Bobby Cox, Billy Cox, Vester Cox and Harry Cox.

Annie Ruth retired from the Crisp County School System where she had worked as a para-pro and a librarian. She was an active member of Lake Blackshear Baptist Church and had previously been an active member of Ebenezer for many years where among many other positions, she had served as Sunday School Superintendent, church clerk and teaching.

She had a green thumb and loved her flowers and vegetable garden. Her greatest love though was her family, especially her grandchildren. Annie Ruth is survived by two daughters, Paula Carter of Calahan, FL and Beth Slade and her husband, Gene Slade of Cordele; eight grandchildren, Tracy Cochran, Theresa Mullaly, Jay B. Carter, Shanna Chambers, Shane Slade, William “Bill” Moore, Tina Powell and Michelle Meyers; and 12 great-grandchildren, Rya Chambers, McKayla Chambers, Tehya Slade, Layla Slade, Chandler Harris, Zane Harris, Gauge Carter, Hunter Powell, Harlee Powell, Tucker Bryan, Liam Moore and Eilidh Moore.
