Sara Pate Foshee passed away peacefully on October 18, 2018. The roots of her life passion were born out of Cordele, Georgia where she was born and raised.  Sara was a woman of deep faith, unconditional love of others, a generous heart, a champion of those in need, and passionate supporter of the Madison Youth Ranch of the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. She was the consummate volunteer who regularly gave of her time and talents for others.

Sara graduated from Cordele High School in 1956 and attended Auburn University where she met her late husband, Kayo. She hosted the reunion of her High School class at Lake Blackshear for many years and enjoyed remaining in contact with her family and friends. Those reunions and life long relationships brought joy to her life.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, J.S. and Fannie Joe Pate, husband Durwood O. Foshee, Jr. (Kayo) and daughter-in-law, Lora Ann Foshee.   She will be greatly missed by her children Rev. Durwood O. Foshee III (Anne), John Pate Foshee (Valerie), and Claire Foshee Botsch (Mark), 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, her brother John Pate (Janet), and sister Gatha Ott (Robert).

Sara was a beacon for her family.  Her legacy was passed down to her grandchildren through her legendary GRANDMAMA SARA’S SUMMER CAMPS from 1992-2011.  The impact of these events in the lives of her grandchildren cannot be overstated.   Her summer camps were moments of experiencing events and building relationships among the cousins that can never be broken. As much as Sara loved her professional and volunteer life, it was truly her grandchildren that she would, and did, do anything for.

A service celebrating Sara’s life will be held on Saturday, November 3 beginning at 10am at Southside United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Florida.

In lieu of flowers we suggest contributions be made to the Madison Youth Ranch of the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home

(http://www.fumch.org/) which she dearly loved.
