Republican Noel Williams won the open seat for state house district 148 in Tuesday’s election. Incumbent school board member Scott Forehand held off a challenge from a write-in candidate to hold onto his seat on the Crisp County Board of Education.

With 366 mail-in ballots remaining to be counted as of press time, Williams had tallied 4,240 votes compared to Democrat Joshua Deriso’s 2,485 in Crisp County for the 148th district state house seat. In Wilcox County, voters chose Williams by a count of 2,049 to 694. District-wide, Williams won the seat 12,347 votes to 5,466 votes.

In the school board race, Forehand took 4,213 votes while write-in candidate Nancy Brannon mustered 1,107.

The state house and school board match-ups were the only contested local races. Statewide totals for the governor’s race were not available by press time, but Crisp County voters chose Republican Brian Kemp over Democrat Stacy Abrams 4,235 votes to 2,399. In Dooly County, Kemp won 2,000 votes to 1,781 while in Wilcox County Kemp won 2,064 votes to 745.
