Dooly Bobcats defeat Brookstone in regular season finale

COLUMBUS— The Dooly County Bobcats finished out the regular season with a 63-36 win over Brookstone in Columbus this past Friday night.

Bobcat senior Reggie Smith had a big night with four total touchdowns and a two-point conversion to help lead Dooly County to the win. He caught five passes on offense for a total of 161 yards and two touchdowns, while running the football eight times for 85 yards and a score, and he also returned a fumble for a 29-yard score to go with four tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Bobcat senior quarterback Bo Lawson completed six out of nine pass attempts for 202 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He led Dooly in rushing as well with 15 carries for 178 yards, two touchdowns and two conversions.

Other contributors on offense for the Bobcats were: Zepha Hill- seven rushes for 16 yards and three touchdowns, Malik Burns- five carries for 64 yards, Malik Mcghee- four carries for 20 yards, Shamon Zanders- 41-yard reception, and Emaje Son- two-point conversion reception.

Burns was the leading tackler for the Bobcat defense on the night with 18 total (nine solo, nine assists). Ra’qauvious Billings had 11 stops, three tackles for a loss and one sack.

Other defensive contributors for Dooly in the win were: Jeff Felton- seven total tackles, Son- seven tackles, Javarese Black- six tackles, Curt Hawkins- five tackles, Zepha Hill- five tackles, Smith- four tackles, Rashad Lucas- four tackles, Justin Johnson and Brandon Holmes- three tackles each.

The win put the Bobcats at 6-4 overall in the regular season and left them with a ranking of 14 to ensure a home playoff game in the first round of the GHSA class A playoffs.

Dooly County will be hosting the Bulldogs of Hancock Central (6-4, ranked 19) in the first round of state. The winner of Friday night’s contest will travel to number three ranked Mount Zion for the second round of the state playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Vienna.
