Engineers and construction officials are currently working on plans to repair the damage to Georgia 90 in Byromville, caused by a CSX train derailment from a trestle this past Saturday, November 27, 2018.

A stretch of the highway from the Georgia 230 Connector/Church Avenue to just north of the trestle is full of ruts, deep gouges and scraped depressions caused by the rail car impacts as well as their removal process. The detour route, using Main Street and the Georgia 230 Connector/Church Avenue, will remain in place until the significant repairs are made.

At this time, engineers believe that Phase One of the project, involving the area clean-up, will be completed on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. Phase Two, involving the roadway reconstruction, is set to then start on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018. These dates may be changed depending on the weather and other factors.

The roadway work will involve what is called ‘deep face’ patching in several areas. Then, the entire affected stretch of Georgia 90 will be milled and overlaid. The last steps include striping and guardrail repairs. The estimated time of project completion is yet to be determined.
