Dooly lands several players on all-region football team

VIENNA— Dooly County finished up another solid year on the football field in the second round of state last month and several of their biggest contributors were recently named to the GHSA class A region 4 all-region team.

Dooly senior quarterback Bo Lawson was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the region after accounting for 1771 yards and 18 passing touchdowns this season to go with 1253 yards on the ground and 16 rushing touchdowns, plus one touchdown reception.

Two Bobcat receivers were picked for the first team all-region offense, senior Reggie Smith and junior Shamon Zanders. Smith caught 34 passes this season for 668 and seven touchdowns, while adding three passing touchdowns and four rushing scores. Zanders had 29 catches on the season for a total of 662 yards and six touchdowns.

Four Bobcats made it on the first team all-region defense: senior linebacker Malik Burns, senior linebacker Raquavious Billings, junior defensive end Rashad Lucas and junior defensive tackle Jeff Felton. Burns finished the season with 120 total tackles (24 for a loss of yards) six sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two pass breakups and a blocked punt. Billings piled up 114 total tackles (17 for a loss of yards), one sack, one interception, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two blocked field goals. Felton had 68 tackles (eight for a loss) on the season, with 3.5 sacks and two fumbles caused. Lucas came up with 52 total tackles (eight for a loss), four sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and one pass deflection.

Three Dooly County offensive linemen were picked as honorable mentions for the all-region teams: senior David Grant, junior Derrick Ivory, and sophomore Kamran Leath. Their efforts this season blocking for their teammates helped the Dooly County offense put up an average of 379 yards per game and 29.2 points per contest.

The Bobcats also had three honorable mentions picked on defense: senior defensive end Javarese Black, junior linebacker Zepha Hill and senior defensive back Jaboris Hicks.

Black had 126 total tackles (nine for a loss), three sacks, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups this season. Hill finished the year with 90 total stops (six for a loss), four sacks, one fumble recovery and one fumble caused. Hicks had 46 tackles (two for loss) on the year, three forced fumbles and three pass breakups.
