Funeral services for Dorothy Davis Ray of Cordele were held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with Rev. Phil Streetman officiating. Words of remembrance were given by nephew,  Rob Davis, Mary Ray, daughter-in-law, and son, Scott Ray. Music which included “Forever In Blue Jeans” and “I’ll Fly Away” was played. The interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tyler Ray, Justin Leach, Rob Davis, Kenny Carnes, Dustin McKeelan and Doug McClellan.

Dorothy, 83, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at her residence.  She was born in Cochran to the late William Eulas Davis and Mervin Wynne Davis.  Dorothy was a para-pro in the Crisp County School System and had been an active member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and a talented baker. She loved being a hostess for family, friends and neighbors, whether it be a small dinner or a big party.

Dorothy loved life and was known to break out into a big laugh and song. She was always active in her children’s lives, baseball, school, any extra curricular activities, and continued that same lifestyle with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jimmy Ray of Cordele; a son and his wife, Scott and Mary Ray of Marietta; six grandchildren, Michael Ray, Michele Ray, Meagan Ray, Tyler Ray, Matt Wheeler and Kristin Beard; three great-grandchildren, Clayton Wheeler, Kellum Wheeler and Oliver Beard; and a daughter-in-law, Catherine Ray of Roswell. She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Ray; sister, Mildred McClelland; and brother, Bobby Davis.
