Cougars’ three-game winning run comes to an end at Schley

The Crisp County High School baseball team had an early season three-game winning streak come to an end with an 8-2 loss on Wednesday evening on the road against an unbeaten Schley County team (6-0).

The Cougars scored the opening run of the game in the top of the first inning when Bailey Barfield hit an RBI single to centerfield that sent Connor Richmond to home plate.

Crisp held the slim lead for the next couple of innings, but Schley County scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning.

The Cougars got their second run of the game in the top half of the sixth frame when Toby Stripling scored on a Schley wild pitch, but the Wildcats put five runs on the board in the bottom half to put the game away for the 8-2 win.

Noah Walters started the game on the mound for Crisp County and he put in five innings of work, allowing four runs (three earned runs) on three hits and five walks, while striking out 10 Schley County batters.

CCHS batting lineup leaders in the game: Barfield- two hits, one stolen base, and one RBI; Stripling- one hit and one run scored; Jack Carter and Jackson Napier- one hit and two walks each; Richmond- one walk and one run scored; Tanner Massey and Cade Jolly- each with one hit.

The defeat to Schley County put Crisp County at 5-3 on the season.

The Cougars are scheduled to play Perry High in Cordele tonight starting at 6 p.m., and they will next be at Southland Academy for a game on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.

 

Wildcats run-rule Windsor 11-1 for first region win

Crisp Academy defeated Windsor Academy 11-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Macon for their first region win of the season.

Wilcox County and Fullington Academy fall against tough opposition in mid-week clashes

Telfair County 12, Wilcox Patriots 1

The Wilcox County Patriots dropped a home region game against Telfair County by a final score of 12-1 on Tuesday night.

Brock White had a double and scored the only Wilcox run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Judge McDonald in the bottom of the first inning.

Rhett Davis, Branson Owens, Clark Gaines, and Lagan Luke also all finished the contest with one hit in the Wilcox batting lineup.

The Patriots had a record of 1-3 on the season following the defeat against Telfair County.

The Patriots were originally scheduled for a road region game at Lanier County tonight but the game has been canceled due to weather concerns. Wilcox will next play a home game versus Clinch County on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

Fullington Academy

The Fullington Academy varsity baseball team went on the road and fell to the Southland Academy Raiders by a score of 11-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Hunter Hughes, Carson Godfrey, and Cody Cofty all recorded a hit for the Trojans in the loss.

The Trojans subsequently fell on the road at Robert Toombs Christian Academy on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 5-2.

RTCA had a 5-0 lead in the game after five innings played, but the Trojans closed the gap with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.

Hughes and Trey Miller both reached base on walks in the top half of the sixth and Blake Worley loaded the bases with a single with just one out. Brooks Hendrix then hit a two-run single to score Hughes and Miller to get the Trojans on the board.

Fullington was unable to close the gap any further from there, leaving RTCA on top at the conclusion of the game by the 5-2 score line.

Jack McLeod finished the game with two hits for the Trojans. Josh Hendrix, Avery Scarboro, Chase Smith, Miller, and Brooks Hendrix all finished with one hit apiece in the Fullington batting lineup.

The defeat to Robert Toombs put the Trojans at 0-3 so far on the season.

FA’s next game will be a rematch with Southland Academy on Wednesday in Pinehurst starting at 4 p.m.
