A six-month-old infant was killed early Sunday morning in a single-car accident at the I-75 northbound rest area at mile marker 107 in Dooly County.

Law enforcement officers were called to the scene at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday, where they found a Volkswagen Jetta overturned near the off-ramp entryway to the rest area, according to preliminary reports from the Georgia State Patrol.

There were six passengers – all from Warner Robins – in the vehicle; four were adults. Riding in the front were Michael Miller, approximately 25-years-old, and Alexandria Hamilton, approximately 21 years old. [Only years of birth were provided.] Ivy Hamilton, approximately 19 years old, was in the left rear seat holding a three-year-old at the time of the incident and Tohj Hamilton, approximately 29-years-old, was in the right rear seat.

The six-month-old was reportedly lying unrestrained in an infant’s car seat, which itself was not properly fastened inside the vehicle. The baby boy was the only passenger killed in the accident. All of the passengers were transported by EMS to Crisp Regional Hospital, where the five survivors were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the fatal wreck. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
