Sleepy driver leaves roadway, two injured

A driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday on Old Albany Road between Mckinney Road and Hwy. 300, left the roadway, and struck several trees. The incident left the driver, Willie May Thomas, and the passenger, Curtis Harper, with injuries significant enough to warrant transport by EMS to the Crisp Regional emergency room.

According to a supplemental report filed by Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Watson, the deputy “was dispatched to Old Albany Road, between Mckinney Road and Highway 300, to an accident. Upon arrival, both subjects involved, Curtis Harper and Willie May Thomas, were on the side of the road with lacerations to the hands and head area. Willie stated that she was driving and fell asleep at the wheel, causing [t]he vehicle to go off the roadway and into the wooded area, striking several trees. EMS arrived and transported both subjects to Crisp Regional Hospital’s Emergency Room. ABC Wrecker was dispatched and removed the vehicle. Georgia State Trooper King arrived and worked the accident…”
